Altos Las Hormigas Appellation Gualtallary Malbec 2021
Altos Las Hormigas Appellation Gualtallary Malbec 2021
A solid violet red color reveals a dense, concentrated, compact wine. Notes of spices and minerality make a complex nose. On the palate, a supple entry, dark berries and spices. A very structured and quite wild Malbec, with firm fine-grain tannins, showing its calcareous foundations and columns. The mouth feel is full of thrilling freshness and balance, with a long and persistent finish.

Altos Las Hormigas is based in Luján de Cuyo which is one of the region’s premier vine growing areas. Altos Las Hormigas is known as a Malbec specialist with a reputation as one of the country‘s top five producers of this variety, Altos Las Hormigas spearheaded
the revival of Malbec in Argentina in the 1990s, while many others were insistent on planting and vinifying Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.
Alberto Antonini and fellow Tuscan friend and business partner, Antonio Morescalchi first visited the vineyards in 1995 and were so impressed that they persuaded a few friends to join with them in buying this estate. The estate covers 216 hectares, of which 40 hectares are planted to vines. At around 900m, the altitude is slightly higher than on the plains of Mendoza, which, combined with the sunny climate, gives excellent ripeness in the wines. Their own production is supplemented with grapes from contracted growers in
the Luján de Cuyo as well as the Valle de Uco, which tends to give the wines a distinctive floral fragrance on the nose.
