Tasting Note

The 2023 Beresini vineyard shows honeysuckle, violet, and notes of oyster shell (think white Burgundy) minerality. On the palate, this is medium in weight with great length, and perhaps a little bit more silky than in previous years. The acidity in this wine is incredibly well integrated. It is there, and you can perceive it because of the freshness on the palate, but it is not something that stands out. The Beresini Vineyard was planted in 1988 with rare cuttings from the nearby Hyde Vineyard. Larry Hyde and Steve Beresini hand selected the lowest yielding Wente genetics from the oldest Chardonnay block in the Hyde Vineyard. This three-acre block’s yields are miniscule, and the small berries give the wine an intensity that is distinctive-the essence of a great Chardonnay.

Less is always more when it comes to bottling some of the best grapes on the planet. In the tussle between the will of nature and the winemaker – our work is staying out of the way. The TOR winemaking team has been together since the beginning. Jeff Ames is winemaker, and we share a simple rule – the vineyard is what we showcase, not a heavy winemaker’s hand. Each wine is nurtured to bottle unfiltered and unfined.
