The estate Prinz Von Hessen is headed by Landgrave Moritz von Hessen and his son, Prince Donatus. The ground stock of the "Landgraviate Hesse wine-growing estate" was founded in the 1950s and several hectares of the best wine sites in the Rheingau have been integrated then. “Life is too short to drink bad wine”, Goethe’s words were written in what is now Prinz Von Hessen’s Hasensprung vineyard and are as good a motto as any for a winery that prides itself on its centuries old tradition of making fine Rieslings. The estate is the most aristocratic in Germany. Prince Donatus the current Prinz Von Hessen is not only a real Prince with his own HRH but is 436th in line to the British throne. Prinz Von Hessen is a 4 Star winery by Hugh Johnson. This winery is one of the handful wineries awarded to be in the VDP classification.
