Syrah and Shiraz are the same grape; Syrah is how the variety’s was originally referred to in what we call the 'Old World' while Shiraz is how it became known first in Australia and the the rest of the 'New World' producing countries.
The difference is in the style of the wine. Syrah is lighter in body with less alcohol and finer tannins. Shiraz are more intense wines - generally richer, with riper aromas and fuller in both body and higher alcohol.
