Zinfandel

Zinfandel and Primitivos often explode with candied fruitiness to be followed by a dried spice and on occasion, a tobaccoesque smoky finish. The primary flavours of Zinfandel are jam, blueberry, black pepper, cherry, plum as well as cranberry and liquorice.

Being lighter in colour than Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, it is surprising that 'Zins' have moderate tannins and high acidity that make them taste bolder than they seem.
