GD Vajra RHKYC Rooftop Wine Dinner

Join us for a prestigious evening at the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club, where you can enjoy a sumptuous menu crafted by Executive Chef, Paul Fong and his team which will be complimented by five fine Italian wines from the G.D. Vajra vineyards – Including two very highly rated and awarded Barolos. All set to the breathtaking backdrop of the Hong Kong harbour and Kowloon skyline.

The evening will start with Champagne apéritifs and an introduction to Champagne Thiénot by their Brand Ambassador, Anthony Rocher.

For the main meal owner, winemaker and family member, Giuseppe Vaira will guide us through the high altitude Barolo vineyards of the G.D. Vajra family estate, tasting a range of wines including Riesling, Barbera, Barolo and Moscato.

About The Winery - G.D. Vajra

GD Vajra is a truly unique family estate with a history as interesting as the wines they produce. Located in Vergne, the highest village in Barolo, it sits among the vineyards at an altitude of 400 metres. Currently, the family tends all forty hectares including the outstanding Bricco delle Viole, one of the highest crus in Barolo.

Run by second generation winemakers Giuseppe, Isidoro and Francesca Vaira, the estate is overseen by their parents, Aldo and Milena. The winery’s history stretches back further still and is named after Giuseppe Domenico, Aldo's father. Aldo founded the estate in 1972, using vineyards that had been in the family since the 1920s.

The grapes of G.D. Vajra have always been grown close to nature. As they mature only late, the authentic, strong character and multi-faceted wines produced in the estate are of a cool elegance. Its aromatic finesse is brought into balance with a lively but well-proportioned acidity in beautifully modern and functionally designed cellars. The wines are traditionally characterised by a longer maceration and are predominantly aged in Slovenian barrels. In this Piedmontese winery, values such as wholeness and harmony are written in capital letters.

A boutique house with a human dimension, Champagne Thiénot has been a family adventure since 1985.

Undaunted by centuries of tradition, Alain Thiénot dared to create his own house, driven by his intimate knowledge of the winegrowers via 20 years of experience in Champagne grape brokerage and by the acquisition of prestigious vineyards in Grand Cru and Premier Cru. Today, Alain is supported by his children, Garance and Stanislas, in connivance with the promising cellar master, Nicolas Uriel who are all in search of perfection, are curious and open-minded. As a family they breathe their own touch of modernity into the House, while respecting its eminently Champagne style - fine, fruity and fresh wines that reflect a meticulous and artisanal know-how.
